Duplication Services

The University Archives provides a variety of reproduction services at cost, but reserves the right to restrict reproduction of materials due to condition, size, or donor requirements. Duplication options include photocopy; photographic reproduction; duplication of sound recordings, motion picture films, and videotapes; and digitized copies of photographs and documents.

Duplication Policy and Duplication Fee Schedule

Permission to photocopy is handled on an item-by-item basis. For most materials, photocopying is permitted; however, donor agreements, copyright restrictions, condition, value, and size may limit item duplication. Use of the self-serve copier for photocopying archival materials must be approved by the Archives staff.

The use of audio and video recording equipment, digital cameras, and personal scanners will be allowed when possible; however, the use of hand-held and sheet-feed scanners is prohibited.

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies and other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, copies may be provided for individual researchers' private study. However, copies are provided for personal use only and may not be further reproduced, published, broadcast, displayed, offered for sale, transferred to another individual, or deposited in another institution without written permission from Oregon State University Archives and/or the copyright holder.

For information about our duplication fee schedule, please see our Summary of Duplication and Use Charges page.

For information about digital duplication services, please visit our Digitized Reproduction (Scanning) Policy and Procedure page.
