The Great Depression looms over America while baseball struggles to survive. When The Babe begins to fade, fans pin their hopes on the rising stars of Joe DiMaggio and Bob Feller. America's game has another struggle too - the stain of racial segregation. Confined to the Negro League are great stars like Josh Gibson, "The Black Babe Ruth," and Satchel Paige, perhaps the best pitcher who ever lived. Countless talents are excluded from baseball's major leagues. Outside the national spotlight, they play a graceful game of "Shadow Ball."
