The Cooperative Extension Service (CES) has always had a commitment of service and education to all citizens - that's our mission! This has included serving persons with disabilities through 4-H programs, educational programs for senior citizens, and technical services for farmers and ranchers with disabilities.

The purpose of this resource manual is to assist you in doing what you have been doing all along, but BETTER! The 4-H motto "To make the best better" is the most appropiate here!

This manual will:

  • provide practical solutions to improve accessibility for your program, services, and materials
  • provide practical solutions for improving accessibility for your extension office and fairgrounds
  • provide sources for assistive devices
  • provide sources for technical and legal information
  • provide copy-ready handouts for training in your community

But this is just the beginning ... your role as an Extension Educator will have far reaching impact as you:

  • become a role model of accessibility
  • inform the community about accessibility issues
  • provide ADA training for local government and businesses
  • involve persons with disabilities in your community

The mission and impact of CES in your community will be enhanced through a positive leadership role in the area of accessibility issues. Hopefully, this resource manual will provide the needed support for these opportunities.
