Praised as the best idea of the century, condemned as an extravagant muddle, the United Nations peacekeeping force is in the news as never before. This program presents the history of the UN's successful and sometimes controversial peacekeeping efforts by analyzing the most recent operations in Bosnia and Somalia, and addressing the question of the future of such operations. Hosted by Sir Brian Urquhart, head of UN peacekeeping in the 1970s and '80s, the program features rare archival footage and examines current operations and crises through the voices of the peacekeepers, diplomats, and journalists involved in them. A United Nations production.
