(Heritage: Civilization and the Jews series)

Examines the history of the Jews in the U.S. from colonial times to the Depression. The "Golden Land" - in Yiddish, the "Golden Medinah" was the name for America among the Jews of Eastern Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. For American Jews, no matter which wave of immigration they rode to these shores, there was a convergence here between the American ideal of democracy and the ancient Jewish heritage of freedom. This hour traces the Jewish experience in America and ends on the eve of Hitler's rise.
