Yol (Trek of Life), the award-winning film by Yimaz Guney, paints a thoughtful, compelling portrait of modern Turkey as seen through five prisoners granted temporary furloughs to visit their families. Ruthless traditions and an oppressive state greet Seyit Ali (Tarik Akan) and his fellow convicts when they journey home to pursue their dark destinies. Seyit returns to his village and learns that his wife, Zine (Serif Sezer), has been unfaithful; torn between love and family honor, he must kill Zine or be disgraced. For others, this "trek of life" will lead to tragedy or a glimpse of freedom. Guney, himself a political prisoner, escaped to France, where his universal epic won the Palme d'Or as Best Picture at the Cannes Film Festival.

French with English subtitles.
