Find out why this enchanting movie about the absurdity of war became the longest running film in U.S. history. It enjoyed a continuous five-year run and still commands a huge cult following as audiences come upon it like discovering a long-lost treasure.

Set in the beautiful French countryside during World War I, a Scottish soldier (Alan Bates) is sent to a village on a suicide mission to dismantle explosives set by the retreating German army. The village, soon to be blown sky-high, has been abandoned by its inhabitants - except for the inmates of the local insane asylum. The mental patients take over the town, welcoming the soldier and coronating him as their King of Hearts.

In the midst of the war's madness, this village of lunatics ironically becomes the most rational, delightful place to be. The soldier soon falls in love with an angelic tightrope walker (Genevieve Bujold). Both a bold statement on the insanity of war, as well as a heartwarming love story, King of Hearts is subtle, visually striking and, in short, a wonder to behold!

French with English subtitles.
