This film documents the atrocities of KOLYMA, a Russian prison camp that was in existence for 40 years. KOLYMA is a winner of both the Berlin and the Amsterdam documentary film festivals. In Communist Russia, power was obtained and maintained through fear and violence. Many Russians, who were considered enemies of the Communist government, were sent to concentration camps in Siberia to mine for gold and other valuable minerals. Through starvation, disease, random executions, subfreezing temperatures, over two million Russian citizens lost their lives in Siberian concentration camps. Kolyma was the worst of these camps. This award winning documentary is based on eye witness testimony, archive records, surviving documentary footage, and our own filming of the remains of the Kolyma concentration camp.
