A Different Place - The Intercultural Classroom is a two-part video presentation withn an instructional guide.

Part I (21 minutes) is a docudrama depicting cultural conflicts in the classroom. We see how a well-intentioned teacher struggles to convey information to a class divided by different assumptions about learning. We also observe how different patterns of communication reinforce mutual negative perceptions between teacher and learners and between students from different cultures.

Part II (16 minutes) offers an analysis of the drama by an interdisciplinary team of experts. The discussion is divided into four sections:

  • Cultural Variation
  • Communication patterns
  • Learning styles
  • Toward community
