The Silent Epidemic is unique in its dual format: talk show and docu-drama. A live audience setting provides comments and discussion with parents, teens, and experts.

The docu-drama was initially filmed in 1992. It includes dramatic sequences depicting potential signs and causes of teen suicide. Additionally, the docu-drama contains interviews with teens that attempted suicide. These individuals clearly and emotionally describe the hopelessness that led to their desperate actions.

The studio audience segment is hosted by Grammy Award-winning recording artist CeCe Winans. The audience consists of experts on teen suicide and teens, they discuss what options are available to a young person or parent. Also in the audience are two of the teens from the initial 1992 interviews, they explain how their lives have changed since the suicide attempt.
