Goat Island is a Chicago-based performance group that incorporates music, dance, theater, narrative, and visual imagery into its pieces. Founded in 1987, the group consists of six members - four collaborators/performers, a videographer, and a director - all of whom contribute ideas to create their enigmatic performance events. They are seen here rehearsing and then performing How Dear to Me the Hour When Daylight Dies, a physically challenging and innovative work that premiered in Glasgow, Scotland, and then toured several cities in the U.K. As is typical of their work, the piece was developed over the course of two years and touches on numerous personal and social issues, always with an element of humor.
