Explains that LP’s theory states that structured water is bound to protein, not removed from protein, and therefore may not represent “dehydration.” Notes that protein interaction as part of the anesthetic mechanism is being studied by Professor R.M. Featherstone at the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco. Says that they would be interested to learn Dr. Davis’s results with anesthetics.   Dear Petie:

  I was happy to have your letter in reply to my second one, even though you didn't include any information about the car, which I had requested. I know that Linie has shown some interest in the car, but our Linie says that he thinks Anita doesn't want to get it for him. I certainly don't want to be the person to say "no" to him and I don't want to be untruthful, either, and say that the car is already sold although it is true that it is sold in case that I can find the information that I am supposed to give with it. Linie says that there is no Bill of Sale and perhaps none is necessary.

  I have suggestion of friends, also written to one or two of these people who have museums for old cars and I thought I would wait to get the reply from them before accepting this offer from this woman here in Pasadena.

  Daddy and I have made progress on our house at the ranch and also have had a grader come in to grade the road over to the site. I also planted some Monterey Pines and hope that I have more success with them than with the redwood.

  If you come to the United States perhaps you could come on to the west coast. We could probably find some reason for your coming and you certainly could be helpful in cleaning out that garage. I don’t remember your tool box!

  I am sorry that you are haying a bit of difficulty with your own house and I hope that you really are in it now. I do not remember its address so am sending this to you at the college. I surely hope that you don't have any real difficulty with your builder.

  We continue to have a very great deal to do and I am looking forward to getting up to the ranch where I hope we shan't be quite so busy.

  The third edition of College Chemistry has appeared and it looks quite nice. Papa is quite pleased with it.

  No doubt you have learned of the merger between W. H. Freeman and SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN. The merger leaves W. H. Freeman absolutely free and under the same management that it always has been but does finally eliminate the unfriendly stock-holders who were being somewhat obstructionist particularly Bill himself. The company is growing and is certainly doing very well. This is apparent when I tell you that stock which we paid $10.00 for is now selling at $200.00, that is, if any were around to be sold, which there isn't.

  We both feel very sad about Bill and I think that probably there is nothing that can be done about him. Peter, his son, of whom he is tremendously fond, has gone back to live with Verne and at last reports, Bill and Margaret were not living together, but Bill was living alone in Palo Alto and Margaret was up on her ranch. This makes us all sad but there are many sad things in this world.

  We, too, were happy to have you in Oslo and to be all together again, even though we were so busy and under something of a strain, with our many engagements that we didn't get to see as much of you and Julia as we should have liked.

  We hope that you are well and that the children are well. I am sure that you will be much happier in somewhat larger quarters, although you will find it a nuisance to not be able to reach everything from one position. I remember when we first moved into this house that it seemed miles and miles from one room to another.

  Daddy and I send you much love and I ask you again to send me any information that you may have which would be useful to me about this car.
