Labor day
Dear Mama and Daddy:
It has been so long since I have written that I have forgotten what I have written about. I guess that I told you on the phone that Linus dropped in for a few hours between planes about a month ago. It was fun to see him, even for so short a time. He had breakfast with us. As usual, he brought a couple of cast-off sport coats, but unfortunately not as nice as that brown corduroy one. Those two even Peter wouldn't take!
Then, Peter came for about five days. He and I went up to the San Juans and rode a ferry boat about one afternoon, and had a pretty good time. He wasn't here for long, and we didn't get to do much, I'm afraid. I put him on a navy plane that was headed for San Diego, and I haven't heard from him since, so I guess he got home somehow. Maybe he broke down and bought an airplane ticket; I loaned him enough cash to do that, if necessary.
Also, Al Jacobsen was here for about two weeks at the end of July. One afternoon he just drove in the driveway, and there he was. We were pretty surprised.
Our kids are all thriving. Cheryl starts nursery school on Friday; she will go twice a week. Kirstin will possibly start after Christmas, in any event, they both will go to the Sunday school, so Kirstin will get some social contact too. They have just gotten nice new shoes, new tights, and lovely warm coats, with fuzzy lining and hoods. They are tickled pink, especially with the coats, and are putting them on all the time. They were so pleased in the store, when they were trying them on, their eyes just sparkled. Cheryl's coat is green, while Kirstie's is tan.
Crellie is eight months old now! He crawls all over, like a little mechanical toy, he stands up against chairs, etc., he has had two teeth for quite some time now. He has nice blue-grey eyes, and fuzzy hair.
Today is a lovely late-summer day, clear, warm, with a light breeze. I would be out sailing, but I have a slight cold, and I am hopeful that I can keep it from getting worse by staying in.
My friend Satya Kakar has just gotten his PhD, and is going off to Austin, Texas, for post-doctoral work. I think that he anticipates driving through Pasadena, and perhaps will ring you up.
Love,
Crel

- Letter from W.W. Hart to LP, RE: Mr. Hart read an article by LP in which he asks Khrushchev to stop all nuclear testing. He noticed in the same paper an article stating that biologists and pacifists back Russian nuclear testing, and he goes on to state that the Russians have always been peaceful. Handwritten at the top: “Ans’d” [Filed under LP Correspondence: (H: Correspondence, 1961-1962), #168.1]
- Note from Betty S. Hall to LP, RE: Since LP will be at a scientific conference near where she lives, she offers her home in case he needs a peaceful break. She could drive over and get him, and then bring him back if need be. [Note from Mrs. Hall to LP, August 4, 1961] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (H: Correspondence, 1961-1962), #168.1]
