6 June, 1960
Dear Mama and Daddy:
We are coming to Pasadena Sunday next, 12 June, on United Air Lines flight 890, which is scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles at 8:50 PM pdt. It is the non-stop jet from Seattle. Do you think that you might be able to meet us at the airport, or arrange for someone to do so? If you are unable to, you could call either Lucy's parents, or my friend Al Jacobsen. Al is listed in the phone book under Jacobsen, G., on Ramona Street in Sierra Madre. I am sorry that we haven't given you a little more warning, but the time has rushed so we sort of lost track.
I had quite a pleasant birthday. Lucy arranged with the gals at the lab to have a little surprise birthday party for me at the lab on Friday, and then we had a very pleasant five hour moonlit, auraura [sic] borealis-lit sail Friday evening. (somehow I get the impression that that last isn't correctly spelled, but you get the idea.) On Saturday we went to the U of W arboretum and walked and walked, very nice. The aurora (is that better?) was very impressive - vast green curtains hanging across the northern skies. I had only seen the spectacle once before, and that was not very impressive.
You might be amused to know that Dixy Lee Ray drives a bright yellow Austin-Healy six.
The instructer [sic] for the biochemistry of nucleic acids course that I took this quarter gave us an oral final-twenty minutes. I found this exam a very satisfying experience, and not at all traumatic. I certainly admire that man's conscienciousness [sic], and am happy to say that I got an 'A' in both the exam and the course. This is finals week, and I have one left, physical chemistry tomorrow. I do not anticipate that it will be too difficult.
Love from
Crellin, Lucy, Cherry Blossom, Kristi
