Dear Mom and Pop:
Jim Rosoff telephoned me a couple of days ago and asked to borrow $ 1500 from me. I asked for a few days to think about it, and last night sent a wire saying no. I just don't trust him. He said that he needed surgery for a back injury, but was pretty vague about it. If all he has told me is true he should have a pretty good credit rating to get a bank loan, and I don't want to take the risk involved, even with an attractive 10% interest. I don't trust him, and can't believe the stories he tells.
Do you think that there might be a summer job for a friend of mine at CIT, perhaps in the mental deficiency program? I have a friend who is pre-med, but majoring in history. He has gotten good grades in his biology and chemistry courses, and I feel could do reasonably good work. I think that he is pretty smart, and generally able. He might need a bit of guidance if he were working on some problem by himself, as he hasn't had the lab experience that I, say, have had. Please be frank in this matter, and don't hire him as a favor to me if you don't need him, or prefer to hire CIT students for summer work, or don't hire students for summer work.
Mama, somewhere in the garage, behind the Merc, and perhaps to the right as you look into the garage, are a couple of new mufflers in boxes. Do you think that you might be able to mail one of them to me. One of my mufflers has completely rusted out, and the noise is driving me mad, but I don't want to spend $l2 I don't have when there are two new ones in the garage. Don't do it if it's too much trouble, but I would appreciate it if you were to send it.
Our children are growing by leaps and bounds. Cheryl just got her third pair of shoes, and she talks more and more, with clear, complete sentences. Kirstin eats and grows, and gets ever fatter. She weighed 18 lbs. about a month ago, and wears clothes that Cheryl was wearing last fall. She smiles and laughs, tho she laughs best for Cheryl. I'm worried about a bed for Kirste, as the little portable thing is pretty little for her, but also I don't want to buy another crib.
Well, I'm sure that I'll think of something to say after I seal the envelope, but I'm pretty busy these days, so
Love from
Crellin, Lucy, Cherry, Kristi
