  Monday 15 June, 1959

  Dearest loves Anita and Linus,

  Many thanks for your letter which I was pleased to receive.

  The situation is this. Julia's mother has said that she will not take Thomas after the 15th of July, and we just do not know anyone else with whom we can leave him for a month, or even shorter. We agree it is just too much for Joy to take on and I see no real alternative other than bringing him and being unable to go off with you to Denmark. It is a shame because we were looking forward to this journey with you.

  It might be possible to find an institution for him; I think that a Swiss institution probably would be better than an English, the only English places are setup for unwanted children. So- you might cast around a bit for a suitable place. The only disadvantage is Thomas' lack of French. There ought to be something nice in Geneva or about.

  We shall arrive in Geneva at 1650 on Monday 29 June, if that is agreeable to you, from Zurich. We are going to Zurich on Saturday 27th June and will ring sometime that weekend. We are visiting the Dunitz's 14, Bahnhofstr,, Rueschlikon bei Zrich, 92-28-87.

  I would certainly like to go to Stuttgart with you. It is good fun. Did you get a five speed box?

  I am a little worried about the parents and wish to make a suggestion to you. They have written today to me saying they will be at loose ends from Thursday 9 July (they are in Cambridge then) until Tuesday 14 July, and I suppose they expect to visit us then, since I have not written to them. I suggest that if you would like they visit us all in Geneva for these few days, though I am not sure that it might not be too hectic for them or for you. They are in Oslo now, I do not know where but shall make a possible address. I suggest c/o Prof. Hassel, Chemistry Department, University of Oslo, Oslo as a possible address for the parents. They are coming here on Monday the 22nd. and will stay at the Welbeck Hotel, W. 1 until the 29th when they go to Germany. We shall see then a little while they are here I suppose. There is a CIBA conference.

  It is examination time here. Quite a lot of depressing work. I do not like the examination method, and hope to change it somewhat. It is a long uphill fight to change anything in this bloody country.

  We have made an offer on a house, but I expect we shall not get it. It is just up the road from Joy's, and I have discovered a lot of other friends and near friends live in the area. It is quite a nice house, part of the roof is missing and all the windows. It would be a while before we could move in. There is a very nice pub across the street.
