Dear Professor Ivekovic:
I was interested to receive your letter, and to learn about the equations that you have formulated for the electronegativity values of the elements.
I myself like to see the effort made to develop empirical equations of this sort. It is my opinion that such efforts have in the past often led to discoveries of some significance. In the case of your equations, I would say that I think that the failure to give the original values for chlorine and bromine is a defect. I think that the evidence supporting the original values is satisfactorily strong.
With best regards for the New Year, I am
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling:JH
