Portland 2, Oregon
Dear Mr. MacEwan:
I have been pleased to read your letter of 16 December, and I apologize for not having been able to answer it earlier - I have had a lot of things that have kept me busy recently.
I think that the best thing that I can do, in answer to your letter, is to tell you that Mr. A. L. Wirin of Los Angeles (257 South Spring Street), who is an attorney for the ACLU here, has been planning to institute suit along the lines that you describe in your letter. I think that Mr. Wirin is in China at this time - he was given permission to go to China, in order that he could gather evidence as attorney for defense in the Powell case. Probably nothing more will be done until his return in a couple of months.
You might want to get in touch with Mr. Wirin and find out what the situation is. I have agreed with Mr. Wirin that I would help.
I am pleased to hear that you are doing research work with Dr. Charles Grossman now. Please give my regards to Dr. Grossman. Also, I would be interested to know what you are doing.
With best regards, I am
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling:w

Dear Mom,
Your letter re fuchsias (I probably misspelled it before) has arrived and it certainly sounds exciting. There is certainly no real rush, and it is worth it to have healthy well started plants. Thank you very much.
The little silver picks may be useful for other things than martinis. For example, canapes and pickles. They are made by Merle Boyer and are very good looking, I think.
I'm glad I got the check off and I hope it's all right.
I'll try to get Anita going on the Muumuus.
Much love
Linus
