Dearest little love:
I've just arrived- its 9:07 AM. The flight was fine, 6 ½ hours. Beets, Jerry Donohue, + Mitchell were aboard! I expect to go to ONR later for a conference. My suite here is a nice one- perhaps we should stay here instead of at the Hay-Adams hereafter.
The meeting last night went along well. The chairman was Dr Martin; Ermou was her uncle. She teaches at USC Med. Sch. She walks with cane- polio. Have you met her? Someone said that there were more questions after my talk than at any other meeting. About ^ people there, I estimate.
I'm going to bathe + rest now, + put on my pink suit. The weather is fine. We passed over those parallel ridges- very interesting.

- Letter from LP to Dr. J. B. Neilands, Biochemistry Dept., University of California, RE: Reports on the x-ray investigation of the ferrichrome sample that Neilands sent. Dr. Davies made several attempts to obtain x-ray results, then gave up. Dr. Edgar Eichhorn attempted as well, reporting that the crystal needles were too small to be mounted and that there was too little material to permit recrystallization. If Neilands has obtained any larger crystals, then he should send those. If not, then perhaps Neilands could send a larger amount of the smaller crystals. Then Eichhorn could try to recrystallize them in an attempt to obtain larger crystals. Wonders what progress has been made in determining the structure of the crystal by chemical methods. - Letter from LP to Professor Walter Miles, Faculty of Letters, Istanbul University, RE: Interested to hear how Miles is getting along in Istanbul. As to the matter of a professor of inorganic chemistry, LP recommends Joel Hildebrand. Wonders if an effort has already been made to get Hildebrand to come. Also suggests Professor Horace G. Deming, who is probably now retiring from the University of Nebraska; has an outstanding reputation as a teacher.
