  Dear Parents,

  [illegible] is very happy to hear from you. It seems that you are having a wonderful trip. I am envious. That was a sort of round about way to get from Israel to India, and probably sort of tiring. Elfriede writes me that Milton went back to Philadelphia. She didn't say why, just that he had left and that she was lonely. My trip in Europe and coming home was just wonderful. I got to Oslo just a few hours after you left, and I was sorry that I had not gone up earlier. I did enjoy every minute that I was in Stockholm, tho. We had Xmas dinner with the Harcloser and spent four days skiing. Little girls went along to give instruction. Lot of fun. I went skiing last week here, but Oregon snow is lousy. Peter and I spent three days in Copenhagen, after sending Linda back to England. Copenhagen is certainly a beautiful city. We went to the ballet - first ballet that I have ever seen. Trip home was uneventful, except that Idlewyld was fogged in and we flew around for an hour waiting for the fog to lift. I spent the afternoon with the Jahns in NYC. The photo of Daddy with the three girls made the New York Times, and a similar one, but not quite as nice, is on the cover of the current ACS monthly. The matron of the Stockholm youth hostel, that lovely white ship that we looked at from the hotel, was in town a few weeks ago, and she stayed with the Livermores. Dr. Livemore and his wife invited me to their home for dinner, and to meet the woman. I was very pleased and was happy to go. Mrs. Livermore bakes bread, fairly good bread. I'm afraid that my grades are not what they ought to be this semester. I haven't worked as hard as I should, and I'm going to make a concerted effort to do better next semester. Do you know when you will get to Honolulu, and also when you will be arriving in Los Angeles? I am considering going to LA over Easter, but haven't decided definitely yet.

  Well, guess I'll go to bed. Have to get up early tomorrow. Vacation is over.
