Dear Mom and Dad
We are looking forward excitedly to the coming trip, although it will be wearing in many of its aspects. We are planning on arriving in LA Sunday morning, Dec. 5th, on Pan Am (could someone meet us?) and then leaving with you on the SAS polar flight the next midnight. Then we have reservations from Copenhagen to Stockholm, arriving about 12:55 on the 7th. afternoon. We have made no arrangements about accommodations in Stockholm -- what do you think should be done about that?
For the return we have reservations out of Stockholm on the 11th at 5 PM via Hamburg, Glasgow, New York, LA, arriving Honolulu 8:15 AM on the 13th. Wow!
We don't like leaving so soon, but we have to be back here on the 18th for a wedding we are more-or-less giving, so this did not seem to be the time to "see Sweden". That will have to wait.
We will also miss the Athenaeum dinner on the 3rd, but that cannot be helped either.
I am planning to rent my formal clothing in Stockholm. There is nothing available here at all. According to the consul here, Gustav Olson, there should be no difficulty whatsoever.
20 November
Got your letter last night. I will try to change our flight back to the 12th, so that we can attend the party.
We still don't know if Anita will get a re-entry permit, but we're planning a fight if she doesn't.
The situation with Crel is of course all changed, but it may come up in the future again. He seems to be enjoying himself up at Reed, and (more important) doing some growing up in certain aspects of his personality that needed it. I think he enjoys his stays with us, although he and I do not always get along too well together in the mutual understanding dept. The difference in age, I suppose, together with the inevitable intra-family emotional tides.
Be glad to see you on the 5th. We're certainly proud to have such a Pop.
Much love,
Linus
