Dearest little love:
All went well on my trip- one hour late here this morning. I have been handled as a VIP- a TWA man paged me + put me on board in New York ahead of the others, another met me in Paris, had our sit down, + handled my baggage and passport, another put me on the plane again, + a delegation met me + went through customs here in two minutes. I am in the house of Dr Schmidt, who did his work with Dorothy. I bathed, rested an hour, + visited the labs. today. Ceremonies begin tomorrow. On Saturday + Sunday Samuels (a Balhol boy who came to the party on Norham Rd) is taking me by car to Galilee, etc. (Dan, Bethlehem, etc).
There are olive trees, oranges, eucalyptus, castor, + sand here- much like home.
I saw Magat in Paris. Bauer was out of town. Mlle Cauchois got his job- I talked to her. Magat said the ACS had refused membership to Mlle. Johot-Curie. I went to the Inst.d.Radium + saw her + the letter, and have written Daniels about it, saying that he should act fast to rectify his mistake. The French chemists are pretty angry.
Magat took me to lunch in the little restaurant behind the Pantheon.
I walked down Boul. Mich', and over to the Faredes Invalides, + and caught the limousine. The plane stopped at Geneva, Rome, and Athens, but I was tired, and didn't get out.
Herman Mark is due later tonight. He is staying in this house too. Bohr, Chain, + Peyton Rous are the other foreign guests.
Much love from your
Paddy
