Dear Victor:
I have just seen in NATURE that you have been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society, and I am glad to extend my congratulations to you.
I was sorry not to see you during my short stay in Cambridge. Peter had told me that he had learned that you would return to Cambridge on Sunday, and that I could see you at that time; I found on telephoning, however, that you had gone to Rushbrook.
I was happy to see Peter again. Also, I thought that it was worth while to have attended the Solvay Congress in Brussels.
Please give my best regards to Tess.
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling:W
- Letter from LP to Mr. Edward M. Corson RE: Replies to Mr. Corson's letter that he is glad of his interest in the research of proteins and related substances. Does not think that it would be difficult to find support for the work financially. Gives some suggestions for where to apply for funds and fellowships. [Letter from Mr. Corson to LP May 17, 1953, June 5, 1953] [Filed under C: Correspondence 1953, Box #74, Folder #21]
- Letter from LP to Mr. Garnet T. Page of The Chemical Institute of Canada RE: Writes in response to Mr. Page's letter of enquiry that he will be in India during the middle part of next year, and therefore does not think that he will be able to make a speech in Canada at their institution. [Letter from Prof. Page to LP April 27, 1953] [Filed under LP Correspondence: Box #313, Folder #1].

Dear Peter:
I got to Brussels safely, and then to New York by way of Iceland, and met Mama there. We were in new Haven for a week, then in Philadelphia, Washington, Buffalo, and then home. Everything is all right here. Last weekend Mama and I drove to Fresno and San Luis Obispo. I gave a talk, before the Sub-section of the California Section of the American Chemical Society, in Fresno, and then stopped at San Luis Obispo to inspect the California State Polytechnic College, where some of the faculty members want to form a Sigma Club (not a Chapter).
Your letter arrived today. We were glad to know what you have been doing.
Your friend Ian Bush and Alison came in a couple of weeks ago, just after we had got home. I showed them around the laboratory during the afternoon, and then they came home, and had dinner with us. They could not stay over night, however, because they had to continue on their trip, and had left their things in a motel in Santa Monica. We were happy to see them.
I was glad to hear about Bragg and the Royal Institution. We are looking forward to their visit here in September; also to having Kendrew, Perutz, and the others here.
I have got a letter from Jeffries Wyman. He mentioned you. Apparently things are rather mixed up in Paris. However, Mama and I have been invited to come to India, for the month of January, and perhaps we shall decide to do that this year.
I have some new models now, somewhat different in nature from any that I have used before, and I am trying to find a better structure for collagen. I have been expecting to be busy now, reading galley proof of GENERAL CHEMISTRY, but the galley proof has not yet arrived. I hope that they are not delayed in publishing it—it would be too bad if we did not have copies in October, for the freshmen.
I was pleased to find, on getting home, that the sophomore who have been taking our course Chem 20, Electric and Magnetic Properties of Molecules, seemed to be very well satisfied with the instruction that Gunnar has given them. I am taking the course over the rest of the year. We have 18 men in the class. Most of the honor students in physics, as well as those in chemistry, have registered for it.
I hope to know in a couple of days whether we shall buy a Porsche or not. I think that I shall take a ride in one tomorrow, and find out just what the financial arrangements are.
I enclose your check for June.
Much love from,
[Linus Pauling]
- Letter from LP to Prof. Eberhardt RE: In answer to his letter of April 13, 1953, Caltech would be glad to have him on as a visiting professor, and to discuss his theoretical problems. [Letter from Prof. Eberhardt to LP April 13, 1953, letter of response from Prof. Eberhardt June 7, 1953].
- Letter from LP to Prof. Wendell N. Stanley of the Virus Lab, U of California, Berkeley RE: in response to Prof. Stanley's letter, writes that it is not necessary for him to review Prof. Stanley's letter for approval. Suggests where his manuscript for the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences should be sent instead. Personally finds the manuscript interesting. [Letter from Prof. Wendell N. Stanley to LP May 18, 1953] [Filed under LP Correspondence: Box #367, Folder #10: File Stanley, Wendell M.)].
