Dear Professor Warne
I am very pleased to be a member of the dinner committee honoring Professor Harlow Shapley for his outstanding accomplishments in science and for the leadership he has given in the cause of world pleace [sic]. I regret very much that it will not be possible for me to be present at the dinner.
Professor Shapley is one of the great men of the world. He deserves the thanks of every American for his vigorous and effective leadership in the struggle for world peace. I am honored to be included among his friends.
