  • Letter from LP to J.D. Bernal RE: Asks Bernal to recheck his earlier (1928) work on the structure of eta-bronze and, if possible, to send crystal samples used in his earlier work. LP and Dr. David Shoemaker have discovered a different length for the repetition of the crystal structure for eta-bronze (based on twenty-year old samples from Bernal) than that given by Bernal’s original investigation. LP wonders if there was a mistake in Bernal’s original investigation or whether eta-bronze occurs in two forms. [Letter from Bernal to LP 1950-02-15] [Filed under LP Correspondence: Box #27, file:(Bernal, J.D., 1940, 1948-1971, 1981)]
  • Letter from LP to Dr. Otto Beeck, Shell Development Laboratories RE: Request he send Al Smith to Cal Tech to speak at a Wednesday Seminar on the crystal structure of crystalline adducts of urea and straight chain aliphatic hydrocarbons. [Letter from Beeck to LP 1949-10-11] [Filed under LP Correspondence: Box #37, file:(B: Correspondence 1949)]
  • Letter from LP to Charles Coryell RE: Thanks him for the press stories from Atlantic City and about names of the elements wolfram and niobium. [Letters from Coryell to LP 1949-09-29, 1949-10-13] [Filed under LP Correspondence: Box #68, file:(Coryell, Charles D., 1928, 1936-1941, 1945, 1948-1950, 1954, 1956-1958, 1960-1963, 1968-1970)]
  • Letter from LP to Henry Allen Moe, Guggenheim Foundation. RE: Thanks him for the letters of introduction to people in Mexico City. Plans a trip to Mexico in December. Pleased about the plans for the Foundation. [Reply from Moe 1949-10-11] [Filed under LP Science: (John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, 1946-1952), Box # 14.014 File 14.4]
  • Letter from Dr. Paul Bartlett to LP RE: Informs him that S6 could be obtained by working in the dark and absence of oxygen. Reports that unfortunately the student working on this project has completed his degree and left. [Letter from LP to Bartlett10-14-49] [Filed under LP Correspondence: Box #23, file:(Bartlett, Paul D., 1939, 1944, 1949, 1963)]
  • Newspaper Clipping: “Chemistry’s Legions”, Washington (D.C.) Pathfinder, October 5, 1949. [Filed under LP Scrapbooks, 1946-1950: Box #6.005, Folder 5.45]
  • Letter from Alice A. Adanalian, Head, Div. of Specialized Personnel, Institute of International Education, to LP RE: States that Dr. Camille Sandorfy will not be coming to Cal Tech because he was unable to obtain an extension of his passport, and has formally withdrawn from his fellowship. [Letter from Executive Secretary to LP to Miss Alice A. Adanalian 1949-03-09, note from Dr. Camille Sandorfy to LP 1950-01-03] [Filed under LP Correspondence: #357.2]
  • Letter from LP to Dr. J. D. Bernal, Birkbeck College, cc: Dr. David P. Shoemaker, RE: Discusses the results of photograph and crystal analyzations of eta-bronze. States the results differed from Bernal’s, and requests more of the eta-bronze and epsilon-bronze crystals. [Filed under LP Correspondence: #363.3]
  • Letter from LP to Alden H. Emery, Executive Secretary. RE: Informs him that he is willing to replace Newman with Sparks. [Filed under LP Science: (American Chemical Society: Correspondence, 1949-1950), Box # 14.005 File 5.2]
  • Letter from Alden H. Emery, Executive Secretary, to Henry M. Woodburn, University of Buffalo. RE: Pleased that he will represent the ACS at the University of Toronto ceremonies. [Filed under LP Science: (American Chemical Society: Correspondence, 1949-1950), Box # 14.005 File 5.2]
