Prof. Wendell N. Latimer
University of California
Berkeley, California
Dear Wendell:
There is a research man in the chemistry department at the University of Manchester, Dr. M. Szware, who has been doing some interesting work on the determination of dissociation energies of molecules by pyrolysis. He has published about twenty papers along these lines, some in the Journal of Chemical Physics and others in the Proceedings of the Royal Society. I think that the work is pretty interesting.
Hugh Stott Taylor has arranged for him to make a trip to the eastern part of the United States, and to lecture at Princeton University, Ohio State University, and Mellon Institute. Szware would like to come west, and I am trying to arrange for a few lectures for him, in order that he can get enough money to cover the expense of his western trip. I am writing to ask if you would be interested in having him speak, and if you could contribute something toward his expenses.
I am not sure when his visits will be made, but I think during the fall term.
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling:W
