Intermetallic compounds that might be studied
I see in Strukturbericht 3, page 612 that the compound AuPb2 is reported to have A0 = 16.14 Å. So far as I am aware its structure is not known.
AuPb2 is formed at 68° by a solid-phase transformation, from a melt containing less than 73 per cent lead, or at a somewhat lower temperature directly from the melt in case that there is a little more than 73 per cent present. I suppose that it might be possible to make crystals of it in a lead matrix by slow cooling of a melt containing about 80 per cent lead, and then by dissolving the lead away, under suitable conditions. I think it would be interesting to try to determine the structure of this crystal.
