Dear love: How do you like this one? I think that your kodachromes of the Canyon are better.

Henry seems impressed by the Truman government.

We are flying at 3000 ft. Through clouds. It is rougher than before - we stay low until the Boston stop. My hyascine [?] pill seems to be doing its job. There's a Frenchman aboard with a rosette in his buttonhole - I don't know who he is.

9:30 PM Monday Nov. 22, 1948

Dear Love: We are now approaching Gander. We have eaten dinner and many passengers are asleep. I've been reading the New Yorker, and also two pamphlets, Intermediate + Advanced Conversation French, that I got at Macy's. They are by two UC professors + are very good. We have been flying at 15000 feet. The sky is clear, but I heard someone say that there is snow on the ground at Gander.

There is a photographer on board, taking pictures for two magazines (one is Pageant). He began at the New York starting place (TWA station), continued in the bus, the terminal, and now the plane.

The French pamphlets have jokes. "The Physics Lesson." Heat expands + cold contracts." [sic] "Give an example." "In summer the days are long + in winter they are short."

Dear love: I had lunch with Henry. He looks fine. He seems pleased that Truman was elected, he thinks Dewey would have been the tool of the big interests + the Republican machine. I bought some bacon. The weather is good. We ought to be called to the plane in a few minutes. He said Edith agreed with you about Dixon Wecter - + he does too.
