Watson, Caltech RE: Gives him information about a Fellow of Trinity College who is named Dyson and is now at Cornell on a Commonwealth Fellowship, tells about his history as first a pure mathematician and then a theoretical physicist, and his reputation as the best British theoretical physicist of the times, adds that Watson might want to check up on him and invite him for a visit. Mentions that Watson might find it worthwhile to build up Caltech's Mathematics Department at Caltech by appointing a young man as Professor, and suggests Professor J. H.C. Whitehead, gives recommendation and his good opinion of Whitehead. Adds looking forward to coming home, as is attending all three national meetings of the American Chemical Society.   Dear Frank:

  I am pleased to have your letter of June 25. We are hoping to see you before going back to California. We shall probably arrive on Monday, August 30, and I think we might well come directly to Princeton, and stay over night, in case that a reservation can be made for us at the Inn. Then on the next day we would go on to Washington, where I shall attend the meeting of the American Chemical Society.

  We have all enjoyed being at Oxford very much. I have been kept very busy - I found, with surprise, when I counted up the number of one-hour lectures that I had given, in addition to my regular Oxford lectures, that they amounted to 39. I have spoken, at many universities in England and Scotland, before the Chemical society, the British Undergraduate School of Medicine, and other such groups. I gave three Scott Lectures for the Physics Department at Cambridge, three lectures at University College, London, the Sir Jesse Boot Lecture at Nottingham, a Beason Lecture at Newcastle, the Liversiege Lecture for the Chemical Society, the first Lyell Lecture here at Oxford.

  Everyone is very pleased that Notestein is to be Eastman Professor year after next. He is very well liked in England.

  Our son Linus and his wife a arrived two days ago. They are going on to Switzerland soon, and we hope to see them there also. Linus will be at Harvard Medical School next year.
