Sir John Cockcroft
Atomic Energy Research Establishment
Harwell, Didcot
Berks.
Dear Cockcroft:
I am looking forward very much to seeing you on Monday, March 22, and I am glad to accept your invitation to me to stay to dinner afterwards and come to the party at your house.
May I ask if it would be inconvenient to you if my wife were also to come to Harwell? She would not, of course, be interested in seeing the scientific installations, but rather the countryside, which we have had to neglect because of the rationing of petrol. If it were not inconvenient to you, I would like to have her take advantage of this opportunity of seeing a bit of the country around Oxford.
Sincerely yours,
[Linus Pauling]
