Dr. Harper W. Frantz
Pasadena City College
East Colorado Street
Pasadena, California
Dear Dr. Frantz:
I have thought more about the matter of the use of gram formula weights and formality, and have reached the conclusion again that it would be wise to make extensive use of these concepts, and to use molality and mole only when the molecular species is definitely known. That is, I believe that the tentative decision reached day before yesterday is the right one.
I have also asked Dr. Davidson for his opinion, and have found that he feels the same way. He is planning to give the concentrations of all reagents used in our freshman laboratory from now on in terms of formality, including the concentrated and dilute acids and bases.
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling:par
