Dr. E. R. Gilliland
Assistant Deputy Rubber Director
Room 5029, New Municipal Center Bldg.
Washington, D.C.
Dear Dr. Gilliland:
Professor Debye has written me, in answer to my letter to him, that I can get information about the light-scattering method of determining molecular weights of substances in solution by writing to you. I am hoping to make use of this method in connection with an investigation of nitrocellulose, which is part of the program being carried on here under an NDRC contract.
I am not sure what documents are available, but I believe that the progress reports would be useful to us, especially the reports covering the details of the theory and also those on the treatment of heterogeneous solutes and on the experimental method. If you have available the papers on angular methods and on depolarization, both theoretical and experimental, they may be useful to us.
It you need information about our project, you can obtain it from Dr. Max F. Roy, Technical Aide for Division 8 of the NDRC, 1703 - 32nd Street NW., Washington 25, D.C.
With best personal wishes, I am
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling
