Dr. D. P. Mellor
Department of Chemistry
The University of Sydney
Sydney, Australia
Dear Dr. Mellor:
Some time ago the Registrar turned over to me your request for a copy of my freshman textbook on chemistry. I have been hoping to get a copy to send to you, but none has turned up, and I am afraid that no copy will be available unless we decide to have it mimeographed again for our use.
The book is incomplete, covering as it does, only the theoretical parts of freshman chemistry. I am planning to rewrite it after the war, with inclusion of descriptive chemistry as well, and to have it published by a commercial publisher.
I trust that things are going well with you, and that you will visit us again some day. In fact, my wife and I hope that at some time in the future we may be able to make a trip to the west, and to see you in your native haunts.
Cordially yours,
Linus Pauling
