Dear Sister Ryan:
The electron-diffraction method has been used widely for the study of surface films on metals. Of the various papers which have appeared, I remember especially one by Finch and Quarrel, which appeared a few years ago, about 1935 or 1936 I think, in the Transactions of the Faraday Society.
Our apparatus is built especially for gas molecules, and is not well suited to the study of metal films.
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling
