New York, New York
Dear Dr. Landsteiner:
I send you herewith my manuscript for your consideration for inclusion in your book. I have, of course, intended to have the manuscript ready for you a month ago, but unfortunately the great press of work in connection with the war research problems underway in our Laboratories have kept me from keeping to my schedule, and it is only now that I have found time to complete the manuscript for you. I should be glad to revise it in whatever way you wish, although there might he a little delay in my carrying out a revision if my duties continue to increase.
I have not made out a bibliography. There is, of course, a very extensive literature on the subject of molecular structure and intermolecular interaction. Most of the work discussed in this manuscript is discussed in greater detail in my book on "The Nature of the Chemical Bond".
I have also not included figures as illustrations. I think that the discussion would be made clearer if several figures were to be added, and if you wish me to add these figures please return the manuscript to me.
Our immunochemical work is going along well. I am continuing with this, although I have given up all of my other fundamental research in order to carry on research on war problems. I may be in New York some time late in August. I am afraid, however, that you are likely to be out of town then.
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling
