Mr. Arthur E. Macartney
Assistant Purchasing Agent
Long Beach Public Schools
715 Locust Avenue
Long Beach, California
Dear Mr. Macartney:
For cleaning our chemical glassware we use a powdered soap, called Wyandotte Detergent, which has cost us about five and a half cents per pound in barrels. This is somewhat abrasive, and for some purposes we prefer to use a pure soap solution. It is the opinion of the men on our staff that abrasive soap may be used in some cases for cleaning chemical glassware but that for certain pieces of apparatus, such as burets, its use is undesirable.
Yours truly,
Linus Pauling
