Dr. Randolph T. Major
Merck and Company, Inc.
Rahway, New Jersey
Dear Dr. Major:
I am very pleased that you will have made for us a few assays for vitamin A activity of Dr. Zechmeister's compounds. At present he has only two crystalline substances to be tested, prolycopene and pro- γ-carotene. These are newly discovered isomers of the corresponding carotenoids. A third substance may be ready for test later.
Would you please tell me how many milligrams of each of the substances is needed for the assay?
With best regards, I am
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling
