Dear Maury:
It seems to me that this is not a good tine to be worrying about forming a new society, and I recommend accordingly that no action be taken at present.
I think that there is a problem which will need to he handled ultimately, relating to an international journal for crystallography or crystal and molecular structure. I have just got a letter from Ewald in which he raises the question, pointing out, however, that nothing should be done until the war is over. It would be too bad, I believe, to have two international journals in the field, and perhaps the Zeitschrift fur Kristallographie can be made into a satisfactory journal after the war's end. Ewald and I both feel that the editing should be along the lines of the American journals, rather than the uncritical lines followed by the Zeitschrift.
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling
