Dr. K. Landsteiner
The Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research
66th Street and York Avenue
New York, New York
Dear Dr. Landsteiner:
The immune serum arrived safely, and we are proceeding with experiments with it. Our analytical technique is now better than it was last spring, and we hope to get some good results.
The only new experimental results which we have now are those obtained with trivalent haptens, such as C6(OH)3 NNC6H4NNC6H4A8O3H2
3 . We have got a fine precipitin reaction with this and a serum made by injection of an azoprotein made from arsanilic acid, and we are proceding with the quantitative study of this reaction, which is of course the same reaction that you obtained with your resorcinol derivatives.
I shall be in New York again in the spring, and I am looking forward to seeing you.
With best regards, I am
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling

- Letter from Professor E. Bright Wilson, Jr., Department of Chemistry, Harvard University RE: Thanks him for his suggestions regarding Wells but says he will be unable to wait for the decision about the N. R. C. Fellowships because he could possibly be left without a job, says this is a serious handicap of the N. R. C. F. and wonders if the Board could be persuaded for the future to push forward the date of the announcement. Believes Wells is not yet experienced enough for the Guggenheim, and reminds LP that they have fellowships and assistantships to offer to graduate students, and explains that they can only give assistantships to men with one year of graduate work. [Letters from LP to Wilson, Jr. November 26, 1940, December 9, 1940] [Filed under LP Correspondence: 438.5]
