Dear Alex:
Schomaker and I have been very slow about writing to you about your manuscript. I am now returning the manuscript separately by mail, and the figures also. I have made a few suggested changes on the manuscript, and have given the paper a number for the Gates-Crellin series, and have written in the names of the authors, Kossiakoff and Springall. I think it might be wise to send a copy to Dr. Springall, but I recommend submitting the manuscript for publication in the Journal of the American Chemical Society without waiting to hear from him.
My general comments are the following. The paper might be condensed a little, although I would not recommend very much condensation. I think that a table should be given at the end in which the structural parameters finally accepted for the molecules are shown. This table could be referred to then in the summary. I suggest that the description of the models be changed by the inclusion of the various bond angles. I have the impression, because for 1,3,5-tribromobenzene the models are labeled J to M that perhaps other models also were tried; possibly you should mention these in the text. The low Br-Br peaks at radial distribution curves, compared with what is expected if the scattering factors are taken proportional to atomic numbers, are rather striking, and I think you should make some explicit mention of them and of their explanation in terms of the Z - f values.

I think that you will be able to understand Schomaker's various difficulties from his remarks on the accompanying yellow sheets. You might think over his suggestions, and then use your own judgment regarding how to handle them. I am enclosing also with the manuscript a page sent me by Springall regarding the preparation of the materials. You should include this in the manuscript. Springall's address at present is Department of Organic Chemistry The University, Bristol 8, England.
With best regards, I am
Sincerely yours,
