Dear Tom,
I haven't learned of any permanent position recently to refer you to, but I have you down on ay list and shall centime to he on the lookout. I was glad to receive your letter and learn some news about you, Lassettre, and Harker.
Niemann and I have just about finished preparing a criticism of the cyclol theory, and we hope that the J.A.C.S. will publish it. The x-ray results aren't any good, and we have examined all of the other arguments and decided that no proteins have a cyclol structure.
There is a lot of activity in the laboratory with several people visiting here from outside, including Professor Hassel and Dr. Finbak of the University of Oslo. The x-ray work going on is largely on complex organic substances such as amino acids, and Dr. Corey is working on oxyhemoglobin and other proteins.
I am just finishing reading proof of my book on the chemical bond, which will, I hope, be out shortly.
With best regards, I am
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling
