- Letter from LP to Howard. [Filed under: H: Correspondence, Box #165.2]
June 2, 1937
Dear Howard:
Could you give me an estimate, as detailed as you can make it, of the following items:
(1) The cost of all equipment except permanent furniture such as chemical desks and hoods for organic research as we are contemplating it, for 4 professors including yourself, 3 or 4 men such as Koepfli, National Research Fellows, etc., and about 10 new graduate students. Please put individual items such as centrifuges, microbalances, etc., as far as possible.
(2) The annual cost of chemicals and supplies for this group assuming that extensive researches are to be carried out on biological substances. I suppose the cost of solvents, for example, would be appreciable.
(3) The cost of all organic books that we should have to bring our library into first class shape in this regard. Should we have any additional journals also?
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling.
