I feel honored by your request that I prepare a manuscript on "The Nature of the Chemical Bond" for the Monograph Series. I hope to write such a book sometime (perhaps within the next two years); but I feel that it would not be desirable to contract at this time to publish it as a Chemical Monograph, for the following reasons. I do not wish to feel bound to produce a manuscript of any particular type, such as specified in a contract; and I believe, moreover, that this book might well be of sufficient general interest to justify its sale at a price lower than that at which the Monographs are sold. I shall, of course, be glad to consider publication as a Monograph when I have a manuscript prepared.
