Linus Pauling: I received notice that I had been awarded the 1954 Nobel Prize for Chemistry while I was preparing to give a lecture at Cornell
University. I wasn't at home. I was on a trip back East. And the telephone call came just ten minutes before I was to enter
the hall and give a seminar, a lecture, in, about the Baker Laboratories. This was long after the 10 years, 20, 15, 16 years
after I had given the Baker lectures there. But I had a little difficulty calming down enough to enter and of course, when
I entered, the professor in charge, Frank Long, announced that it had just been announced that I had been awarded the Nobel
Prize in Chemistry.
