Introduction

This research guide presents a brief selection of reference materials in peace studies available to OSU Library users. It is a list of useful resources arranged by the discipline's subject literature categories. These categories ("dictionaries," "handbooks," etc.) should be used as terms for effective "keyword" searching in the OSU libraries online catalog. Subjects in the database are organized according to Library of Congress Subject Headings, compiled in the LCSH Red Books (found in Reference). Since topics in peace studies appear throughout the collection, from political science to religion to nuclear physics, knowing how the Library of Congress defines your topic means that your subject searching will be efficient and on point. Consult the "Red Books" to define your subject when you have trouble finding what you need. Listed below are Library of Congress subject headings associated with peace studies.

Arms Control Conflict Management Human Rights
International Relations Mediation Mediation--International
Nuclear Arms Control Pacifism Peace
Social Conflicts United States--Foreign Relations United States--Foreign Relations--Treaties
Venezuela--military policy Yemen--defenses Detente
