Strategies for Finding Other Materials
How can you use the information you now have to find other articles on your topic? Several strategies are available to you, such as:
- Search for articles by authors you recognize. For example, you might
search to see if David Wilcove (the author of the book we found in Oasis)
has written articles, along with the book.
- If your search is still very broad, limit your search to "refereed" articles.
- You can click on the subject headings listed for each article to find
other articles with that subject heading.
- Look for articles that include bibliographies, just as you do for books.
In Academic Search Premier, you can only tell if an article
contains a bibliography by looking at the article (if it is full text).
Other indexes may include this information as part of their "full record"
citation. For example, in the citation comparisons linked on the previous
page, the citation from Biological & Agricultural Index
includes the abbreviation bibl in the source field to indicate
a bibliography.
