Find the book through the OSU Libraries catalog. Take to the Circulation Desk. Check it out with your OSU ID.

Check out a laptop?

Circulation checks out laptops.

Check out a study room?

Circulation can reserve and check out study rooms.

Check out something from course reserves?

Search the OSU Libraries Catalog for the Course Reserve Number. Ask for the item by number at the Circulation Desk. Check it out with your OSU ID.

Register my laptop?

Current OSU faculty staff or students may use personal laptops in the Valley Library by registering them. You will need to know your ONID username and password to get started. If you are in the Valley Library and need additional help, there is a workstation and phone devoted to Computer Help in the Information Commons. If you need help and you are not on campus, contact OSU Computer Helpdesk.

Get change?

Java II (coffee shop in Valley Library) can make change, but if it's closed you can put a dollar in the pop machine and press coin return.

Make photocopies?

There is a photocopy center in on the 2nd floor of the Valley Library at the west end of the main avenue. Photocopiers are also available on each floor. Coin operated machines are located on the first and second floors only. The other option is to use your OSU ID/convenience card.

Use a convenience card?

Convenience cards can be purchased for $1 from the machine located in the copy center on the 2nd floor of Valley Library, or from the ID center located in Kerr B094. The same sources can be used to add money to your card. To copy, swipe the card on the machine you wish to use.

Scan a document?

In the copy room on the 2nd floor in the Valley Library, there are 2 machines called EScan. Use your OSU ID or a convenience card. Follow the directions taped to the display screen to scan and email a document to yourself. It is free, but your card must have money on it to activate the transaction.

Make transparencies?

A self-service transparency machine is in the copy room on the 2nd floor of the Valley Library. It will only make black and white copies. Transparencies are 75 cents.

Use copy services here?

Copy services can be requested from the Circulation Desk at the Valley Library.

Print? (Valley Library Information Commons)

If you are a student and are logged in with your ONID account, select "vlibmain-Bill My Account" from the dropdown list of available printers. If you are not logged in with an ONID account, select "Angelou" or "Dickens" and use OSU ID/convenience card to print fro

Print in color?(Valley Library, Information Commons)

When logged in with ONID, select "vlib colour-ask at reference desk". Notify someone at the reference desk that you have sent a print request to the color printer. Printing cost is 40 cents per page in color.
TIP: Any changes in properties or settings must be done AFTER you change the printer name to COLOR.

Print a PDF? (Valley Library, Information Commons )

Printing from the print icon or saving file onto the desktop before printing seems to work best. If patron says that nothing came out, it most likely will be because the frame outside the pdf printed, instead of the contents.

The Information desk on the 2nd floor of Valley Library has direction slips for printing from personal Mac laptops. They will print only to the printers Angelou or Dickens.

Print from library laptops?

Library laptops print to any of the printers in the Valley Library Information Commons. Notify someone at the reference desk that you have sent a print job from a library laptop and they will release the print for you. To release jobs from printers named Angelou or Dickens, you have to swipe your OSU ID or convenience card.

Use Convenience Card or "Swipe My Card" printing?

"Swipe My Card" printing is an alternate to billing your student account. It works on a pay-in-advance system rather than the credit system used by ONID. A convenience card can be purchased from the "add value" machine in the copy center or from the ID center in Kerr. Only cash can be added to this card using the "add value" machine in the library. The ID center can do other transactions. Value is deducted from the card each time it is used to print.

Find out why my document won't print?

If you are attempting to print a file from Blackboard, the File>Print method sometimes does not work. The browser sees the file as a separate window. Because of this, you must click on the file's printer icon directly above the text you want to print or open the file into a different tab/window.

Check out books at Valley Library if I'm not a student?

Circulation is able to set up library accounts for all Oregon residents who are not students.

Log onto the computer?

If you are a student, log on using your ONID username and password. Make sure that the domain is set to "ONID" (not library, bus, engineering, etc.)
Guests can log on using the guest login instructions located on the top of the keyboard.

Access my department account from the library computer? (Ex: Business, Engineering, etc.)

You can log on only with your ONID account on the computers in the Information Commons.

Look up my library record?

From the Library home page, click on "My Account" at the top left corner. You will need to enter your last name and OSU ID number to get access to your account.

Check see when my book is due?

Log into "My Account" using your OSU ID number, or for resident card holders, using your convenience card number. Click on "Checkout History".

Renew a book online?

To renew, log into"My Acccount," at the top left corner of the OSU Libraries home page. Select items you would like to renew and click on the "Renew Items" button.

Get a book that is not available in the library at this time?

If the item is currently checked out you can put a hold on it by clicking the "Request" button from within the item record. You will be notified by e-mail when it becomes available. You may also request a book from another library through Summit by selecting the "Repeat in Summit" button on the top right hand side of the page, and then clicking the request button. Books ordered through Summit usually take 3 days or less to arrive. You will be notified by e-mail when Summit items are available.

Find out if a book came in from InterLibrary Loan (ILL) ?

The interlibrary loan department should send your ONID email a message when your library items have arrived. You can always show ID and check with the Circulation desk.

Send a fax?

There is a fax machine in the Post Office that is located in the basement of the Memorial Union. Each of the service centers in the dining halls also have fax machines.

Get a tutor?

The Collaborative Learning Center (CLC) is located in the Information Commons on the Main Floor in the library. Check the online schedules for tutors in Biology, Math, Chemistry, Physics, Writing, and Zoology. Career Services also meets with students in the CLC.

Get a computer if the library computers are all in use?

Milne Computer Center is located directly across the courtyard from the Valley Library. Regular hours are Sunday 11-am-Friday 9pm (open 24 hours ) and Saturday from 11am - 9pm. Check their website http://scf.oregonstate.edu/ for more hours.

Get a refund for my messed up print job?

Staff at the Reference Desk in Valley Library can have you fill out an ONID Printing Credit Request Form. The request will be reviewed and funds credited to your ONID account if the requests is approved.

Use a call number?

A Call Number classifies material by subject and determines its location within the library. The first letter of a call number will determine which floor the material is on, the second letter determines the section it's located in on that floor and the numbers that follow will give you the numerical location on the shelves it can be found.

Set up my ONID account?

Make sure your General Access Pin (GAP) has been reset before signing up. Go to www.onid.orst.edu and sign up. Follow the directions.

Get my GAP number?

General Access Pin number. The default password is your birth date.

Reset a forgotten password?

Go to www.onid.orst.edu and go to login. Click on "I forgot my password" and reset it.

Get my ONID username?

Go to OSU homepage and click on "Find Someone." Search for your name. When the results come up, click on your name and look at the bottom of the page to see "ONID Username."

Figure out my forgotten OSU ID number?

Login to Student Online Services. You can use your Social Security number instead of your OSU ID. Click on "Personal Information" then Click on "Display OSU ID"

Access wireless internet on campus outside the Valley Library?

Find the multimedia collection?

DVDS and videos are stored behind the circulation desk. Take your call number to the desk to check out your item.

Locate items at COCC?

COCC is the Central Oregon Community College in Bend. OSU Cascades and COCC Libraries are housed in the same building. Books can be requested from COCC for delivery at Valley or Guin, and vice versa.

Find a particular journal?

You can search one of two ways. 1) Using the OSU Libraries Catalog, select "limit search to journals" search the journal title. The record of the journal title will show both print and electronic subscriptions 2) To see if OSU Libraries has an electronic subscription to a particular journal, use the "e-journals" link. Search by journal title, not by article title.

Search for a book?

Use the OSU Libraries Catalog. This is a database of the items owned by the OSU Libraries. Each book is assigned a call number which tells you where the book is shelved.
