The Library Technology Department develops and maintains technology-based systems in support of library services. Departmental staff are responsible for the operation of the following systems:

  • The OASIS library catalog. This uses an application from Innovative Interfaces, Inc. and is hosted on a DEC Alpha platform.
  • The workstations and servers in the Learning Commons, approximately 100 PCs and thin clients using a variety of servers running Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Unix.
  • The CD-ROM database network, using NT and Windows 2000 server with attached CD-ROM towers.
  • The Sun SunRay thin client network, offering throughout the library approximately 50 thin client workstations running Netscape.
  • Unix and NT servers offering some of the library's web-based services. In addition, department staff develop and install new web applications on a regular basis.
  • Laptop computers for use by library patrons.

Departmental staff are also responsible for researching and developing new applications in support of library services.
