Learning Commons Computer Resources

  • Public-access Internet computers offer access to online library resources (the library catalog, article databases and electronic journals) and the Web. Access to commercial e-mail services is blocked at these machines.
  • Login-only computers with Microsoft Office installed also provide access to the Web and library resources. OSU students, faculty and staff may login with an ONID ID. Some of these computers permit saving of files to floppy and/or Zip drives, but most files must be saved on the network or a USB flash drive. A guest login ID is posted at each computer. Access to commercial e-mail services and Microsoft Office is blocked for guest users.
  • Three public access email stations are available. Library patrons with a current (within 5 years) photo ID may sign up on the sign up sheet at the reference desk for a login ID and password. Computer use is limited to 30 minutes if others are waiting.
  • Laptop computers are available to OSU students, staff and faculty for 3 hour checkout and can be used with the wireless network anywhere in the library. Laptop Computer Checkout Policy.
  • An adaptive technology work station includes a scanner, print text enlarger, track ball and headphones with microphone for use with speech display software.
  • Printing is possible for a nominal charge from most computers in the Learning Commons. Current OSU students, faculty and staff may charge printing to their OSU accounts. Other library users must prepay for printing by purchasing a convenience card and adding value at the OSU ID Center or at the OSU Card Cash/Add Value terminal in the Copy Center.
