What does “quiet” mean to you?
At the OSU Valley Library, we recognize that what it means to be “quiet” or “silent” can be defined differently by people depending on their level of stress, tolerance of noise, study habits, learning styles, cultural backgrounds, etc. Because we are not able to create that perfect “quiet” space for each individual, we try to create spaces that encourage either individual or group study.
Because the tapping of laptop keys or the tapping of feet walking by might be too much noise for you, we provide earplugs at our public service desks on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

3rd Floor: University Archives desk
Designated “Quiet” or “Silent” Library Spaces:
Areas intended for quiet or silent study will be posted as such.
3rd Floor University Archives – quiet zone
4th Floor Rotunda – quiet zone
5th Floor Rotunda – quiet zone
6th Floor (entire floor) – silent zone
Expectations
The expectations in “quiet” study zones are:
- individual study
- no cell phone conversations
- limited conversations
- speak quietly
The expectations in “silent” study zones are:
- individual study
- no cell phones
- no talking
